Cleveland shares songs, stories at Holy Spirit

Award-winning singer/songwriter and Catholic music missionary Kitty Cleveland will perform Sunday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Soddy-Daisy.

Cleveland has appeared in concert and as a keynote speaker throughout the United States and in Europe and Canada. Her audiences have included U.S. bishops in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and U.S. senators in Washington, D.C. She has appeared with the New Orleans Opera and in lead roles with Tulane Summer Lyric Theater. She recently traveled to Kibeho, Rwanda, to prepare for her ninth CD, "The Rosary of Seven Sorrows," according to church spokeswoman Kathy Landry.

A native of New Orleans who pursued careers as a lawyer, university instructor and career counselor, Cleveland devoted herself to full-time music missionary after launching her first CD in 2000. Many of her CDs have received Unity Awards (the "Catholic Grammys"), Landry said.

In addition to singing, Cleveland shares the testimony of how her Catholic faith brought her through great personal tragedy.

"It's sure to inspire everyone in the audience no matter where they are in their faith journey," Landry said in a news release.

In addition to Sunday night's concert, Cleveland will offer Mass performances at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
