Babe's Bayou Band in Calhoun

The Calhoun, Ga., Downtown Development Authority is sponsoring a series of summer Concerts in the Park. Featured act this month is Babe's Bayou Band. The show will take place from 7 to 10 tonight at BB&T Park, corner of Wall and Line streets downtown.

Based in Adairsville, Ga., Babe's Bayou Band is a country/Southern rock/jam band self-described as "David Lee Roth meets Merle Haggard."

In 2006, the seven-member ensemble was named the Georgia Country & Gospel Music Association's Best Traditional Country Band of the Year. They won the same honor in 2007 from the North American Country Music Association International. They were runners-up in the Georgia Colgate Country Showdown in 2007. They released "In the Blink of an Eye" in 2008.

The Concerts in the Park series is in its 11th year. Last year's attendance averaged 500 to 600 people a night, according to a news release from the Downtown Development Authority.

Admission is free. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
