Two gifted guitarists at the forefront of exploratory music will share the stage Saturday at Barking Legs Theater. Gyan Riley and Shane Perlowin have been critically acclaimed as visionary musicians for the new century.

According to promoter George Parker, Riley has garnered "extraordinarily enthusiastic reception" for his performances and recordings of guitar music. Among the varied settings in which he's been heard are ensembles led by his father, the legendary Terry Riley, Parker said.

Perlowin offered "a spellbinding performance" at Barking Legs last year with his duo, Ahleuchatistas, perhaps the best-known of his various musical enterprises.

"This performance promises to be equally fascinating, though totally distinct in character from that particular musical vortex," Parker said.

Riley's diverse body of work embraces original compositions, contemporary classical repertoire and improvisation. As a composer, Riley brings together elements of virtuosic classical guitar, Indian raga, jazz, flamenco and American fingerpicking. His latest album is "Stream of Gratitude."

Perlowin's solo acoustic guitar music is rooted in the American fingerstyle tradition but draws influences from 20th-century atonal classical music, traditional Chinese music, African music and avant-garde jazz. His self-released debut solo album, "The Vacancy in Every Verse" (2010), features looped ambient textures, fiery noise, solo acoustic guitar and a guitar/bass/drums trio.

The show is presented by Flying Fingers Productions and the Shaking Ray Levi Society.
