Lee University spotlights teen musicians in two performances

Lee University's third annual String Invitational, presented by the School of Music, will continue through Saturday with two free public performances. Both will take place in the Church Street Annex on the Cleveland, Tenn., campus.

The three-day event, which began with a Rising Star Solo Competition on Thursday, is designed to foster the talents of high school musicians from East Tennessee. Participants were recommended by teachers or private instructors, and they will be attending master classes instructed by School of Music faculty.

Today, the Lee University Chamber Strings ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, all participants, including Thursday's Rising Star winners, will perform in the final concert at 1:30 p.m. Associate professor of music Xiaoqing Yu will direct.

Yu is the conductor of the Lee University Chamber Strings, teaches applied violin/viola and is in his 16th season as concertmaster for the Greenville Symphony Orchestra of South Carolina.
