Cleveland State Community College will present an afternoon of music by classical Latin American guitarist Terry Pazmino at 3 p.m. Sunday in the George R. Johnson Cultural Heritage Center Theater on the Cleveland, Tenn., campus.

Pazmino is a classical guitarist born in Quito, Ecuador. In his youth, he mastered the variety of forms of Ecuadorian popular music, such as the sanjuanito, pasillo, capishca and yumbo. Later, he traveled to Venezuela and France to study with three master guitarists: Antonio Lauro, Alirio Diaz and Alberto Ponce. For nine years, he lived and studied in Sydney, Australia. At the University of Western Sydney, he taught South American folk music and earned an Honours Masters degree. Many of his compositions are derived from Andean Quichua and Latin American music.

He has offered recitals and concerts in some of the best-known concert halls of 42 countries, including the Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall in New York. He has released 14 recordings of his work.

"This concert is part of our continuing effort to help students reach beyond the confines of Tennessee and to see themselves as global citizens, citizens that have an appreciation for a variety of cultures and traditions and art forms," said Dr. Jerry Faulkner, vice president of academic affairs.
