Cuban guitarist Manuel Barrueco in Lee series on Thursday

Internationally renowned guitarist Manuel Barrueco will be featured in Lee University's Presidential Concert Series on Thursday. His performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Dixon Center on the Cleveland, Tenn., campus.

Barrueco, a native Cuban, began playing the guitar at age 8 and attended the Esteban Salas Conservatory in Santiago de Cuba. He immigrated with his family to the United States in 1967 as a political refugee. He later completed his advanced studies at the Peabody Conservatory of Music.

He has dedicated his three-decade career to bringing the guitar to the main musical centers of the world, performing across the United States. International tours have taken him to venues in London, Vienna, Amsterdam and Berlin. His television appearances include "CBS Sunday Morning," A&E's "Breakfast With the Arts" and "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" on PBS.

His latest album, "Tárrega," comprising compositions and arrangements by Spanish composer and guitarist Francisco Tárrega, received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Classical Album.
