The Cadek Orchestra of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will perform music by 19th-century and romantic masters Franz Liszt and Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky at its next concert, scheduled Sunday on campus.
2011 marked the 200th anniversary of Liszt's birth, and the orchestra will perform his Piano Concerto No. 1 with guest artist Jason DuRoy. DuRoy, who has a bachelor's degree from Bryan College and a master's from UTC, is completing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. In addition to faculty positions at Lee University, Bryan College and Chattanooga State Community College, the award-winning pianist is assistant director of music and organist at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.
Additionally, the orchestra will perform two works for full symphony orchestra: Les Preludes by Liszt and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2, which was a tribute to the Ukraine with its subtitle, "The Little Russian."
The orchestra will be conducted on this concert by David Long. He is the conductor of the Chattanooga Bach Choir and orchestra and is a guest conductor at Covenant College on Lookout Mountain.
