Jericho Brass, Clarinet Choir swap flourishes Sunday

The musical collaboration between two Chattanooga ensembles continues with the fourth annual Jericho Brass & Chattanooga Clarinet Choir concert Sunday afternoon. The free concert starts at 3 p.m. at St. Thaddaeus' Episcopal Church, 4300 Locksley Lane, one block off Murray Hills Drive near Highway 58 North and Highway 153.

Musicians in the Chattanooga Clarinet Choir perform on single-reed clarinets, and Jericho Brass is made up of all brass instruments. In this lighthearted battle of the bands, each ensemble will perform about 20 minutes of music, finishing with two selections played together.

Guest flutists Cindy Solfest-Wallis and Amalia Powers will join the ensembles this year to perform the final selections, which will be the Overture from the opera "Die Fledermaus" by Johann Strauss and "Bullets and Bayonets" march by John Philip Sousa.

Selections to be performed by Jericho Brass are "Gabriel's Oboe" by Morriconi, "El Capitan" by Sousa and "Music of Thanksgiving" by Downie. The Chattanooga Clarinet Choir will perform Divertimento I by Haydn, "Molly on the Shore" by Percy Grainger and "Playful Clarinets" by Raymond Decancq.
