Fiddle-a-Rama: Musicians plan fiddle forum in Dunlap this weekend

Fiddle tunes will echo through Dunlap, Tenn., on Saturday, Nov. 10, as the Sequatchie Valley Historical Association presents Fiddle-a-Rama.

The fundraiser/educational program will highlight fiddle tunes, coal mining songs and the music of Tennessee native Fiddlin' Arthur Smith, a Grand Ole Opry member in the 1920s who had a major influence on old-time and bluegrass music.

The day also will feature Chattanooga Folk School musicians, violin makers, a question-and-answer session, historic fiddle display and an open jam. Other activities may be added as time permits.

The program is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. CST inside the museum at the Coke Ovens Park, which is on Cherry Street, three-fourths of a mile west of downtown Dunlap.

All tickets are $5, but those who buy in advance get an extra ticket for a door-prize drawing: a European-made fiddle, case and bow. All proceeds go for upkeep and maintenance of Coke Ovens Park and Museum, which is overseen by the Sequatchie Valley Historical Association, a tax-exempt nonprofit organization with an all-volunteer staff and workers.
