Chattanooga Now Barker Brothers at Sacred Sounds show - Aug. 9

The Barker Brothers will be featured at the monthly Sacred Sounds concert in Ringgold, Ga., on Friday.

The Barker Brothers, a Copperhill, Tenn.-based band that combines hard-driving bluegrass, Americana and folk music, will headline the monthly Sacred Sounds concert Friday, Aug. 9, in Ringgold, Ga.

Also appearing will be musicians Tom Adkins of Hixson and Tom Morgan of Dayton, Tenn.

Music starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Ringgold Depot, 155 Depot St. at U.S. Highway 41. Randall Franks will emcee.

The monthly concert supports the Pearl and Floyd Franks Scholarship Fund, administered by the nonprofit Share America Foundation.

Ticket donation is $5 (free for children 5 and younger). Tickets are available in advance at SonShine Christian Books, 1841 Battlefield Parkway in Fort Oglethorpe.

About the musicians

• The Barker Brothers features Jeremy Barker, a graduate of East Tennessee State University who plays guitar; banjo stylist Jonathan Barker, a sophomore at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville; fiddler Westley Harris, an East Tennessee State University student; and the Barkers’ parents, Angie, who plays bass, and Scott, who plays mandolin. The group’s latest CD is “Driven.”

• Tom Adkins is a pioneering multi-instrumentalist marking 71 years of performing. Among the groups with whom he has played are Lock, Stock and Barrel, Down Yonder, Bill Lowery and The Lookout Valley Boys, Maynard Renfro and The Hymn Time Gang, Weldon Turner and His Turnovers and The Tennessee Hy-Ryders.

• Tom Morgan is a pioneering member of the legendary bluegrass group the Country Gentlemen. He and his late wife, Mary, recorded for Folkways Records and supported legendary performers such as Grand Ole Opry star Curly Fox and fiddler Benny Williams. A multi-instrumentalist and luthier, Morgan also performed with Buzz Busby, Red Allen & Frank Wakefield and The Kentuckians.
