The Lee University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Alan Wyatt, will present its spring concert Saturday, March 16, on the Cleveland, Tenn., campus. The free performance will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center, 1053 Church St. N.E.
Included on the program will be music of Thad Jones, Sammy Nestico, Neal Hefti and Eliane Elias.
A frequent award winner at national festivals, the ensemble includes rhythm-section instruments, saxophones, trumpets and trombones.
Guest artists John Riley, drum set, and Lalo Davila, Afro-Cuban percussion, will perform with the Jazz Ensemble.
Davila, director of percussion studies at Middle Tennessee State University, was selected one of Nashville's Top 5 Percussionists of the Year in 1998.
Riley is on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music and is the drummer for the Grammy-winning Vanguard Jazz Orchestra in New York City. He previously toured with such world-class musicians as Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Woody Herman.

PERCUSSION CLINICS SATURDAY
Guest artists Lalo Davila and John Riley will each present clinics as part of Lee's Day of Percussion on Saturday, March 16. Registration begins at 8 a.m., followed by a drum circle and a presentation by Colin Hill titled "Finding Your Practice Personality." Riley's clinic will follow at 10 a.m. and Davila's at 3:30 p.m. The day also will include performances by East Tennessee High School and Lee University percussion ensembles.
