Young performers wanting to showcase their abilities as dancers, singers, magicians or comedians will be in the spotlight this weekend as Lake Winnepesaukah continues its WinniStar youth talent search.

"We want our younger guests to have a chance to perform - either as a solo act or as part of a group - for our live audience, presenting their talent at its finest," says park spokeswoman Talley Green. Two of the three preliminary rounds have produced finalists. The last preliminary round will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14. The final round to crown the WinniStar will start at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15.

"The winners of each round will be judged by audience response," says Green. "Win over the crowd, and you could find yourself performing for the Confederate Railroad audience." The country group will perform at the park Sunday, Sept. 22. There are also cash prizes of $500 for the grand-prize winner and $250 for the runner-up.

Music fans may remember that the 2009 WinniStar was Lauren Alaina, who went on to become the 2011 "American Idol" runner-up.

Admission to Lake Winnie, 1730 Lakeview Drive in Rossville, is $26 ($10 for guests 2 and younger or 55 and older).
