Metta Quintet extends JazzReach to Chattanooga - April 11

OK, music lovers, do you know the answers to these questions:

¦ What cultural factors came together to make jazz such a compelling art form?

¦ What social conditions shaped the music's development?

¦ How massive an influence has jazz had on the sound and evolution of indigenous American music?

JazzReach knows, and on Friday, April 11, its Metta Quintet will be in Chattanooga to sound off its responses.

The concert, part of the monthlong Jazzanooga festival, is designed to introduce young audiences to the world of jazz, so children and families are especially invited. But jazz novices of all ages could benefit from the multimedia lessons of the critically acclaimed Metta Quintet, which carries out all of the artistic programming for JazzReach, a New York City-based nonprofit dedicated to the promotion, performance, creation and teaching of jazz music.

Jazzanooga founder Shane Morrow describes the quintet's concerts as "highly immersive and interactive" and "as entertaining as they are informative."

The performance will take place at 6 p.m. at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center, 200 E. M.L. King Blvd. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. A link for ticket sales can be found at www.jazzanooga.org.
