When longtime local musician James Greasby died in January, he bequeathed his entire music collection to the Chattanooga Music Club. The collection, which includes thousands of music works and other items of interest, will be offered for sale from 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. today and Friday, Aug. 14-15, at Memorial Auditorium, 399 McCallie Ave.
James GreasbyOrganizers say the items will be sold at "bargain-basement pricing" as a benefit for the club. For example, entire music series will be offered for $2.50 and single sheets for 50 cents. Among the other merchandise available are historically important music items, organ music, reel-to-reel recordings, CDs, records, handbell music and choral music.
"For those of you who knew and loved Jim, as CMC members did, this will be a way to personally own something he cherished as a fond memory," says a news release from the club. "It also will benefit the CMC and provide funds toward our annual scholarships, per his request."
Greasby earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from Bob Jones University and Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Southern California. He taught music at several institutions, served as organist/choir director at area churches and was harpsichordist for the Cadek Baroque Ensemble. According to his obituary, he was most proud of founding the Chattanooga Bach Choir, which he directed for 20 years.
Those expecting to purchase items from his collection should bring their own tote bags. Payment may be made by cash or check.
