In Athens: Old-school blues concert Friday - Jan. 17

The Athens Area Council for the Arts' 2013-14 Black Box Concert Series continues Friday, Jan. 17, with Mac Arnold & Plate Full O'Blues, an old-school blues band fronted by a man with ties to legendary blues and R&B artists. Arnold, right, played in a high school band that often featured James Brown on keys. At age 24, Arnold joined the Muddy Waters Band and helped shape the electric blues sound that inspired the rock 'n' roll movement of the late '60s/early '70s. He has played bass guitar with the likes of Eric Clapton, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, The Temptations and Bill Withers, to name a few. Music starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Sue E. Trotter Black Box Theater at The Arts Center, 320 N. White St., Athens, Tenn. Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for students. They may be purchased in person or by phone at 423-745-8781 or email at office@athensartscouncil.org.
