Chattanooga Now 'An Evening With Lorrie Morgan' in Calhoun - Aug. 2

The Grand Ole Opry gets her first this week, but then the country singer known for such hits as "Five Minutes" and "What Part of No" will head south for "An Evening With Lorrie Morgan" on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Gem Theatre in Calhoun, Ga.

Morgan has sold more than 6 million records and has a trophy room adorned with reminders of her gold and platinum successes, including 14 Top 10 hits and four Female Vocalist of the Year awards.

Her vocal style, combining country sincerity and pop sophistication, took off in 1989 with the emotion-filled hit "Dear Me." She won a Country Music Association Award in 1990 for her work with her late husband, Keith Whitley, the country traditionalist who had died the year before. Her three subsequent albums - "Leave the Light On," "Something in Red" and "Watch Me" - all sold more than a million copies.

Other hit singles include "I Guess You Had To Be There," "Except for Monday," "Something in Red," "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" and "Half Enough."

¦ Her full name is Loretta Lynn Morgan.

¦ She made her debut at the Mother Church of Country Music at age 13 when she joined her famous father, George Morgan, on the Ryman Auditorium stage for her rendition of "Paper Roses." He died three years later.

¦ In 1989, she was granted membership into the Grand Ole Opry at age 24, making her the youngest inductee.

¦ She has been married six times, including to country msingers Keith Whitley and Sammy Kershaw. In 2010, she wed Tennessee businessman Randy White, her first marriage to someone not in the music industry.

¦ She also has been romantically linked with former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman.
