'Genius' pianist Jeremy Denk performs in Sewanee

Jeremy Denk, an artist The New York Times hails as "a pianist you want to hear no matter what he performs," will present a recital tonight, April 7, as part of the Performing Arts Series at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.

This 14-city recital tour of the U.S. includes performances in Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, San Francisco and Miami and culminates in Denk's return to Carnegie Hall.

Winner of a 2013 MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship, the 2014 Avery Fisher Prize and Musical America's 2014 Instrumentalist of the Year, Denk reached No. 1 on Billboard's Classical chart with his "Goldberg Variations."

His blog, Think Denk, recounting his experiences of touring, performing and practicing, was selected for the Library of Congress web archives.

The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. CDT in Guerry Auditorium.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $10 for students.
