Local fans of rising country singer Granger Smith will have to wait a little longer to see him perform live in Chattanooga.

Smith had been tapped for the US101 Acoustic Country Christmas for Kids show tonight, Dec. 8, at Track 29, until a fall during a show in Sayreville, N.J., over the weekend resulted in "two completely separated, broken ribs and a punctured and partially collapsed lung."

According to his management at NPG Public Relations, Smith "was standing on a monitor when it gave way, bringing Granger crashing off the stage into a metal barricade.

"Miraculously, Granger managed to get up and finish the set through excruciating pain ..."

The show was to have been a benefit for the Forgotten Child Fund of Chattanooga, which provides Christmas gifts to children in need. The fund may be best known for Christmas Eve deliveries to some homes via the Santa Train, a caravan of Chattanooga Fire and Police department vehicles.

According to US101's website, those who purchased tickets to the show will receive a full refund from the venue.

It's still possible to help the Forgotten Child Fund. Monetary donations may be made online at forgottenchildfund.org or by mail at Forgotten Child Fund, 3000 Alton Park Blvd., Chattanooga, TN 37410. A toy and donation drive also is scheduled Friday, Dec. 9, with drop-off locations at the US101 studios, 7413 Old Lee Highway, and New York Pizza Department, 5731 Highway 153 in Hixson.
