Riding on the strength of its May single, "Two High," Moon Taxi brings its prog-rock sound to the Tivoli Theatre, 709 Broad St., on Friday, Aug. 18, at 8 p.m.

The band was founded in 2006 by Trevor Terndrup, Tommy Putnam, Spencer Thomson, Tyler Ritter and Wes Bailey while attending Belmont University.

The five-piece band has appeared on "Late Show with David Letterman," "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and "Conan." Their music has been featured by BMW as well as MLB, NFL and HBO Sports. Moon Taxi has performed at Bonnaroo, Coachella, Governor's Ball, Hangout Festival, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and Outside Lands.

"Two High" is a song about hope, Terndrup said in an interview with Relix Magazine. "Hope for understanding, hope for acceptance and hope for our future. We were inspired by the universal peace sign. It's a gesture we'd like to see more of."

Tickets for Friday's show are $28 and $38.
