The Unheard-of//Ensemble, a New York City-based contemporary chamber ensemble dedicated to the development and performance of new music by living composers, is premiering works from its 2016-17 season this week in Chattanooga.

Following a concert last night at Chattanooga State Community College, the core trio of Ford Fourqurean (clarinet), Lauren Posey (cello) and Daniel Anastasio (piano) will perform tonight, March 2, at Covenant College on Lookout Mountain.

The 2017 tour features seven new works from composers Kagan Breitenbach, Flannery Cunningham, Alan Hankers, Howie Kenty, Sunny Knable, Joe Sferra and Christina Volpini, as well as four new works for clarinet and electronics by the Unheard-of//Electronics initiative.

The ensemble works with composers each season to craft an all-premiere program, taking these premieres to colleges, universities and venues throughout the United States to engage students and audiences in the creation of their own collaborations.

In addition to the two Chattanooga stops, the musicians have presented concerts and masterclasses at Marywood University in Pennsylvania, Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School in New York, Alabama State University, Columbus State University in Georgia and a collaboration with Atlanta-based Chamber Cartel at the Mammal Gallery.

Unheard-of//Ensemble collaborates with composers at the forefront of modern music to create projects that connect with new, diverse audiences. The group is committed to the idea that new music belongs in every community and hopes to expand this ideal to audiences and young artists through touring, outreach and an internet and social-media presence. They focus specifically on bringing new music to educational institutions, unique performance venues and unheard-of locations generally out of reach for most new music organizations.
