Hear three big bands for $3 when LFO Jazz Fest is held Friday, May 4, at 6 p.m. in the Northwest Georgia Amphitheater at The Colonnade, 220 Catoosa Circle in Ringgold, Ga.

The Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Jazz Band will be joined by Sweet Georgia Sound and the Monday Night Big Band for a program of swing, jazz and pop music.

Mike LaRoach, director of Sweet Georgia Sound, played in the LFO Jazz Band 50 years ago when he was in ninth grade. He says Sweet Georgia Sound will "play tunes dating back to the big band era like 'In the Mood' as well as some later favorites such as 'Smooth Operator," "The Look of Love" and maybe even a little 'Respect.'"

The Monday Night Big Band plays weekly at The Palms at Hamilton on Shallowford Road. It is an ensemble of experienced musicians from the area.

The LFO Jazz Band will play traditional swing and big-band charts, says director Rich Stichler.

"The band will play music that ranges from big band, to rock and pop, including the music of The Police, Van Morrison, Quincy Jones, Earth, Wind and Fire, Eric Clapton, and even a contemporary jazz fusion group, Snarky Puppy," Stichler says.

The concert is a benefit for the high school musicians to purchase a trailer to haul equipment for LFO bands.
