Red Clay Park lights up for Christmas

With mild temperatures projected in the 50s Saturday, the weather is conducive to a trip to Red Clay State Park in Cleveland, Tenn., where the fourth annual Trail of Lights Tour will be held early Saturday evening.

Ranger Erin Medley said about 200 luminarias will line park trails for self-guided tours by visitors. The ranger advised guests to dress warmly and bring a flashlight.

Part of the festivities will take place inside the park farmhouse, where storyteller Sylvia Idom and Cherokee flute player Jamie Russell will entertain guests. A bluegrass band will play Christmas carols in the Visitors Center.

All proceeds from the old-fashioned Christmas party will benefit Friends of Red Clay.

To get to the state park from Chattanooga, take I-75 to Exit 3-A (East Brainerd Road) and drive 8 miles east. Turn right onto London Lane, and go 2.3 miles. Continue traveling straight onto Keith Road for a half mile, turn left on Mount Vernon Road, traveling 4 miles. Turn left on Old Apison Road, and follow it 7 miles. Turn left on Red Clay Park Road, and travel 1.5 miles to the park.
