It's the one party at the Creative Discovery Museum where children aren't allowed. Adults, however, are welcomed with open arms at AmuseUm, the annual fundraising event that helps finance the museum's exhibits and outreach programs.
Nearly 500 people have attended the annual event for the last 14 years, said Lynda LeVan, the museum's director of external affairs. She expects at least that many to attend this year's party.
"It may be our 15th year, but it's new every year," she said. "It never gets old because it's unique. It's casual, fun, and people can mill around the museum and do what they want.
"This year we're going to have Hula Hooping in the beach party area. We'll have a 1950s diner. We will revisit the original Tom Thumb miniature golf, and we'll have a VIP lounge."
LeVan said the VIP lounge will be a speakeasy for guests who purchased the $150 VIP admission ticket.
"The Ben Friberg Trio will be playing jazz, and there will be a bar with special food," she said. "We're really excited about it."
Different activities will be offered throughout the museum, and SoundForce, HoopTonic and Flashcube will offer more music. The decorations will be an "over the top," she said, and auction will be held.
The goal is to raise around $125,000.
