Wacky experiments at CDM's Chemistry Week

Students from area high school chemistry clubs will be on hand Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. at Creative Discovery Museum, 321 Chestnut St., leading young kids in a variety of experiments involving chemical reactions in connection with National Chemistry Week.

"Chemistry -- Our Health, Our Future!" will explore the positive effects that chemistry has on nutrition, hygiene and medicine. Among the tests will be kitchen chemistry experiments such as "Elephant Toothpaste," which combines soapy hydrogen peroxide with yeast to make soapy suds in a stream large enough to brush an elephant's teeth.

"Chemistry touches every aspect of our lives from the complex reactions that occur in our bodies, to the products we use on a daily basis," said Karen Dewhirst, museum experiment manager.

"Chemistry Fun Day is a unique opportunity to make chemistry fun, approachable and relevant to children and their parents."
