General manager Paul Smith is hoping for cool temps to go with the hot wings Sunday at Chattanooga Market.

"We had wonderful crowds all summer, even with the excessive heat," he said. "But we did notice a great turnout last weekend as it was the first Sunday not in the 90s."

The expected high Sunday is 77, he said, and the new earlier date for the Kick'n Chick'n Hot Wings Cook-Off should bring in a crowd.

"Kick'n Chick'n has been such a great event," he said. "We had it placed in November the last two years, but it has become so popular we moved it up on the calendar to give it a better audience."

Creating the hot wings will be chefs representing seven area restaurants and one catering company: Bud's, Champy's, Keller's Grilled Wings, Market Street Tavern, Mom & Pop's SpecTaters Bar & Grille, Taco Mac, T-Bone's and The Honest Pint.

"The high-profile list of restaurants is such that the champion is considered Chattanooga's best wings," Smith said.

The 2010 winner was Keller's Grilled Wings. The caterer nabbed both the Judge's Choice and People's Choice awards.

For $8, marketgoers will receive a wing from every competing restaurant and the chance to vote for their favorite.

"The competition is fierce, and these folks take it very seriously," Smith said.
