Lake Winnepesaukah is opening its 87th season today with an exciting new in-park scavenger hunt during April.

Guests will use their smartphones to find clues, with each clue leading them to a different attraction or location inside the park, where the next step of their hunt will be revealed.

"We thought this would be a fun and rewarding activity for the opening," said Talley Green, park spokeswoman. "Everybody who completes the scavenger hunt will be entered in the grand-prize drawing for a 2012 family of four season pass."

Green said the winner will be announced in early May.

The scavenger hunt is just the first of many exciting events taking place at the Rossville amusement park this summer. A new ride will be unveiled in mid-May, details of which Green is keeping hush-hush until it's revealed.

Until then, there are plenty of thrills to be found on the breathtaking Oh-Zone, a 14-story freefall, and the famous Cannon Ball roller coaster. Kids will enjoy riding the Bumble Bees and Parachutes before cooling down at the Chill Down Kidtown interactive misting sprays.

The concert schedule is still being finalized but already boasts shows by the Charlie Daniels Band and Colt Ford. As is tradition, Confederate Railroad will close the concert series on Labor Day weekend.

In addition to the featured concerts, entertainment by the Choo Choo Kids will begin in June. The song-and-dance troupe will perform for park guests Wednesday through Saturday each week.

"Mark your calendars for two spectacular fireworks shows," advised Green, "on Saturday, June 30, and Wednesday, July 4. They will begin at 10 p.m. both nights."
