Creative Discovery Museum will be the center of activity for all things tiny during the Chattanooga Gas Free Family Night 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday.
Guests will discover how big the small world around them truly is as they examine how nanoscale technology can be found in clothes, toys, sunscreen and other familiar products.
A nano is a prefix for a scale of measurement that means 1 billionth. Guests will learn how scientists of all kinds are working together to develop new things that were never possible before nanoscale technology.
During Nano Night, guests are invited to play with water that seemingly defies gravity, compare the effect of nanoscale atomic particles on different sizes of Styrofoam balls and examine what happens to light as it passes through butterfly wings. Free nano temporary tattoos will be distributed.
Nano Night at Creative Discovery Museum is part of a nationwide festival of educational programs about nanoscale science and engineering. Activities were developed by the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network. This community-based event is the largest public outreach effort in nanoscale informal science education. It involves science museums, research centers and universities from Puerto Rico to Alaska.
