Summer reading programs at the Chattanooga Public Library will encourage children to "Dream Big," teens to "Own the Night" and adults to see what's "Between the Covers."
The two youth programs kick off Saturday. Participants may register at the main library, 1001 Broad St., or branches at Eastgate, Northgate or South Chattanooga. Adults will be offered special programming throughout the summer but do not have to log the books they read.
Theme: Dream Big -- Read."
Age group: For newborns (who are read to) through rising fifth-graders.
How it works: At registration, which is open through July 14, children receive logbooks to track their summer reading. Any author and title is allowed. When the child has read or listened to 10 books, the logbook is to be returned to any library location by July 21. Children who meet their reading goals will earn a certificate and coupons for local attractions. They also may attend a finale on July 28 at First Tennessee Pavilion to enjoy activities, prize drawings and refreshments.

Theme: "Own the Night."
Age group: Youths in grades 6-12.
How it works: For each book read by July 28, teens will fill out a ticket (not a logbook) for a chance to win prizes in weekly drawings and an end-of-program grand prize. The more books read, the more chances to win. Tickets must be legible to be eligible. Activities include Teen Book Club meetings at 2:30 p.m. May 26, June 30 and July 28; and all-day "Doctor Who" marathons 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 2 and June 9.

Theme: "Between the Covers."
How it works: Adults will read books independently with no check-in of titles or numbers read. However, several enrichment events will be offered throughout the summer at the downtown library. The first program, set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, features Sophia Gross, from Southeast Tennessee Career Centers, who will teach job seekers how to write an effective cover letter.
