Local authors will have another forum for selling their books in September.

As part of the Friends of the Library Book Sale at Eastgate Town Center, Sept. 21-30, local authors are invited to sign up to man a "local authors table." An area also will be reserved for readings and presentations.

Twenty percent of the profit from sales will be donated to Friends of the Library.

The FOL book sales, which offer thousands of discarded or donated volumes, happen three or four times a year and typically raise between $7,000 and $20,000, according to Becky Wooley, a member of the FOL Council and the Chattanooga Writers Guild.

The organization uses funds raised at these used-book sales to fund the Chattanooga Public Library's summer reading program, staff enrichment, media and equipment acquisition and other special projects.

Authors are asked to serve at least one four-hour shift anytime between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays during the sale. Wooley says organizers hope to have at least three local authors per shift.

Shift requests should be made by Friday, Aug. 16, along with any plans to do presentations or readings. Wooley may be reached at 423-653-7902 or beckywooley@hotmail.com.
