Author Mary Alice Monroe at Chattanooga Public Library - July 15

Friends of the Library will host New York Times best-selling author Mary Alice Monroe as part of a free Meet the Author event from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 15, at the Chattanooga Public Library's downtown location, 1001 Broad St.

Monroe has written more than 15 novels, including "Beach House Memories," "The Butterfly's Daughter," "Time Is a River" and "Last Light Over Carolina."

"The Summer Girls" is a story of three sisters brought together by an aging grandmother. The three not only discover family history but are driven by circumstance to learn all about dolphin behavior, conservationists' efforts to protect them and extraordinary measures taken to rehabilitate those injured by human carelessness.

"The Summer Girls" is described as the perfect beach read.

Appetizers and beverages will be served.
