We all scream for ice cream - July 14

Ice Cream Social is Sunday at Chattanooga Market

A favorite child's treat will raise funds for children's care at Chattanooga Market in First Tennessee Pavilion on Sunday, July 14, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For a $5 donation, marketgoers may sample creamy flavors from Mayfield, Ice Cream Show, Blue Bell, Nana's and Milk & Honey. Proceeds from these donations will benefit the Children's Home/Chambliss Shelter, a nonprofit whose mission is to preserve family unity and prevent abuse, delinquency and neglect of children by responding to the community's child-care needs.

After sampling ice creams, everyone can state their opinions by voting in the two People's Choice Award categories: Best Pure Flavor Ice Cream and Best Ice Cream With Add-Ins.

The ice cream social is in addition to the 150 market vendors who will be selling local produce and products. Shoppers can browse booths while listening to music by Jeff Talmadge at 12:30 p.m., followed by Angela Easterling at 2 p.m.

Talmadge's background sounds like a country song: successful Texas attorney and award-winning poet leaves the law in 2003 to pursue songwriting and singing in Atlanta. He has five albums to his credit.

Easterling grew up on a farm in Greer, S.C., that has been in her family for seven generations. She tours as a solo artist as well as with her band, The Beguilers.

Among artists for whom she has opened are The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Ray Price, Suzy Bogguss, Ellis Paul, Radney Foster, The Oak Ridge Boys and Lori McKenna.
