A nationally renowned garden designer will visit Chattanooga on Wednesday, April 3, to explain "Putting Style Into Your Garden."

The program by Jon Carloftis will outline steps to create gardens with various themes and intentions. He will talk about how hardscape materials, plant material, furniture, lighting, decorations, water features, outbuildings and garden decorations must complement, not overpower, to achieve a unique style that evokes the personality of the garden and the gardener. Carloftis also will suggest sustainable, Earth-friendly products for outdoor living.

The program is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Humanities Building at Chattanooga State Community College, 4501 Amnicola Highway.

His visit is presented by the Chattanooga Arboretum & Nature Center. The facility's board selected the Kentucky native to design a Grandmothers Garden, the first in the Southeast, at Reflection Riding.

Cost for Wednesday's program is $15. To reserve a seat, call 423-821-1160, ext. 0.

Images of his work can be seen on his website, www.joncarloftis.com.
