Friends of the Chattanooga Public Library hosts Megan Whalen Turner

photo Award-winning author Megan Whalen Turner is the featured guest of the Chattanooga Public LIbrary's annual meeting this Thursday. Turner's book "The Thief" was a Newbery Honor Book Award for 1997.

Friends of the Chattanooga Public Library annual meeting is scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the fourth floor of the downtown library, 1001 Broad St.

Featured guest is award-winning author Megan Whalen Turner, whose book "The Thief" was a Newbery Honor Book Award for 1997.

At 6:30 p.m., the meeting and reception will end, and Turner will give a keynote address. She plans to speak about "the importance of teaching kids how to judge books so that we can trust them to choose their own reading material by the time they are teens."

Barnes & Noble will be on-site with her books available for purchase.

Those interested in attending may pay $10 to attend the author reception and annual meeting, or come for the speech at no cost.
