Two cemeteries in the area - Forest Hills in Chattanooga and Fort Hill in Cleveland - have scheduled history tours this weekend.

• Forest Hills, 4016 Tennessee Ave., will present its sixth annual Historic Cemetery Stroll from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 (rain date Nov. 2). The property houses the gravesites of Civil War officers, entertainers, industrialists and a U.S. postmaster general. Among those featured this year will be Hiram Tyree, Minnie Wheland and Judge Michael Morrison Allison.

Historical figures of Chattanooga are buried here, as well as unknown children from the Vine Street orphanage.

Call 423-821-4161 for more information.

• Fort Hill has set its seventh annual Walking Tour from 4 p.m. until dusk on Sunday, Oct. 27. The last tour will begin shortly after 6 p.m.

This year's historical characters include James and Nancy Robertson, John and Mary Jane Ramsey, James and Mame Lea Kirby, Amanuel and Elizabeth Rogers, Joseph and Mary Million, Samuel and Alice Kibler, Caroline Grant, Thomas L. Cate and Capt. Jonathan Calvin Dickerson.

The event is presented by Lee University and the Bradley County Historical and Genealogical Society. Tours will be led by Lee history majors. Students and other local performers dressed in period costume will introduce the 19th-century Bradley County residents buried in the historic section of Fort Hill.

Cost is $5. Proceeds will be donated to the Bill Snell Scholarship Fund at Lee University.

Parking is available at the Boys and Girls Club, 385 Third St. SW. A van will shuttle guests to and from the cemetery.
