Nursery Rhyme Time at CDM - Sept. 28

Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle.

The cow ... did something pretty awesome.

Adults no doubt recall this simple story, but younger generations may not know about that buoyant bovine.

The Creative Discovery Museum, 321 Chestnut St., will take care of that during Nursery Rhyme Time at its next Preschool Adventure Day, 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 28.

Designed for families with children 18 months to 4 years old, the program will let youngsters experience favorite nursery rhymes as they are acted out by area high school students.

Children can jump over the moon like the "Hey Diddle Diddle" cow, fashion a crown with Old King Cole, create a Jack and Jill plate story, listen to Fiddlers Three and taste the tarts from Simple Simon.

"A lot of children do not learn nursery rhymes these days, and it leaves them at a disadvantage as they get older because many references in literature require knowledge of nursery rhymes," says Jenette Dean, early childhood manager at the museum. "Children will never forget these nursery rhymes when they experience them in so many exciting, multisensory ways."

Events are included in the price of admission, $11.95 for ages 2 and up (discounts for military families and local fire and police families with ID and Tennessee Aquarium visitors with ticket stub).

Fall/winter hours at the museum are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday (closed Wednesdays), noon-5 p.m. Sundays. The summer exhibit, "The Magic Tree House," has been extended through Sunday, Nov. 3.
