Happy Fourth of July
Happy Fourth of July

When rain washed out Cohutta, Ga.'s Independence Day celebration, the decision was made to postpone festivities. So Cohutta is celebrating July 4 on Aug. 5 this weekend.

The fourth annual fireworks display and community festival will be held at Cohutta Elementary School, 2454 Wolfe St., and next-door Shugart Park from 6 to 9:45 p.m. Saturday.

It is hosted by the Cohutta Volunteer Fire Department, Cohutta Ruritan Club and the town of Cohutta with assistance from the Cohutta Police Department.

There will be crafts and activities for children, volleyball, horseshoe games and live music as everyone waits for the fireworks show when the sun sets. A car and tractor show will be held at Cohutta Elementary School at 6 p.m.

Families may bring their own food to picnic in the park. Or, hot dogs, popcorn, watermelon, drinks and Little Debbie snack cakes will be available while supplies last. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating, along with sunscreen, bug repellent water or nonalcoholic beverages.

Guests are encouraged to begin arriving about 5 p.m. in order to get premium parking accessibility and a good lawn seat in Shugart Park.

Fireworks will begin after sunset.
