The Chattanooga Scale Modelers Association will host its seventh annual scale model convention this weekend, timed to the World of Wheels expo, also at the Chattanooga Convention Center, 1150 Carter Plaza.

Visitors can expect to see museum-quality scale models grouped in categories such as aircraft, armor, autos, dioramas, figures, science fiction and ships, with a miscellaneous category that takes care of most everything else.

Grex Airbrush will give demonstrations during ModelCon 2017, and other specialty vendors will display and sell kits, tools, books, supplies and accessories related to the hobby.

Previous shows, organizers say, have exhibited 300 to 400 models and drawn more than 100 vendor booths.

Show hours are 2-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, but after noon Saturday is said to be the best time for public viewing. Adult admission is $5 (tickets good both days).
