Barnes & Noble salutes educators with multiple events

Educator Appreciation Week continues through Sunday, Jan. 15, at Barnes & Noble, 2100 Hamilton Place Blvd.

Educators in prekindergarten through 12th grade, including homeschoolers, should show their free Educator Discount Card to receive special discounts throughout the store. There also will be giveaways and chances to win a collection of Sterling Publishing books for the classroom valued at $4,000 and an educator gift basket valued at $200.

Multiple events and authors also are scheduled throughout the week.

Friday, Jan. 13

* 7 p.m. A pajama party story time for kids and adults will feature "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore." In addition to the book reading, the evening will include a craft and snack.

Saturday, Jan. 14

* 11 a.m. Story time with guest reader Donnie Cranfill, author of "The Adventures of Camp Nana Papa," a children's book about the special relationship between grandparents and grandchildren.

* 2 p.m. Six local authors, whom store officials have chosen as the Must Reads for the New Year, will be on hand. They are Mike Lackey, J.T. Jones, Morgan Smith, Lorraine Andrews Taylor, Victoria Thurman and Tabi Upton.

* 4 p.m. North Georgia resident Dan Jolley, January's Author of the Month, will speak about and sign copies of his latest young-reader book, "The Five Elements: The Emerald Tablet." HarperCollins is publishing this urban fantasy series for middle-grade readers.
