Two Chattanooga vintage base ball teams will vie Saturday, July 15, for the title of 6th Cavalry Cup champions hosted by the 6th Cavalry Museum.

The Lightfoot club will defend its title against Mountain City at noon on the Barnhardt Circle polo field in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.

"The 6th Cavalry Cup Championship, which crowned the Lightfoot Club as 2016 champion, follows in the prestigious footsteps of a variety of military sports championships played when the Army Post at Fort Oglethorpe was here. Horse shows, polo matches, baseball, football, basketball and shooting competitions were a way of life for the Army, which entertained enlisted men and civilians alike for over 40 years," says Chris McKeever, executive director of the 6th Cavalry Museum in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.

The museum is offering free admission for game fans on Saturday. There is no bleacher seating, so spectators should bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Since its inaugural season in 2013, the Tennessee Association of Vintage Base Ball has grown to 12 clubs in Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga.

Players combine living history with sport, following the rules and customs of 1864, wearing period-appropriate uniforms and using historically correct equipment. All regular season matches of the TAOVBB are free and open to the public.
