Do you enjoy the variety of patterns and the color play in a display of quilts? Want to have a quilt appraised that you've inherited?

The Piecemakers Mountain Memories ninth biennial quilt show offers the chance to do so. The show will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT on Friday, June 16, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT on Saturday, June 17, at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds, 34 Music Road in Crossville, Tenn. Admission is $5 per person each day.

Certified quilt appraiser Cindy Stuart of Maryville, Tenn., will appraise quilts both days by prescheduled appointments only. A verbal 15-minute consultation fee is $20. A formal 30-minute appraisal is $45 and includes a legal, written description that will be sent to the owner within two weeks of the appraisal.

Both appraisal types will give the owner an approximate age of the quilt, pattern name and observations about the quilt. The value of the quilt is part of the formal appraisal only. Appointments must be made in advance; call Piecemakers member Wava McClish at 931-787-2618 to schedule an appraisal.

Vicky Rohrer, publicity chairwoman for the show, says 160 quilts have been entered. Ribbons will be awarded first-, second- and third-place winners plus honorable mentions. Monetary awards total $1,200. Candace St. Lawrence of Butler, Tenn., AQS Certified Appraiser-Quilted Textiles, will judge the entries.

Rohrer says the quilt show includes door prizes, gift baskets and shopping. Several vendors will be on hand bringing in fabric, flowers, sewing notions, jewelry and quilting supplies. Two long-arm quilt machine suppliers will be there as well as Martelli, which specializes in quilting tools and accessories.
