Prater's Mill will be the site of a Park Day cleanup on April 1.

On Saturday, April 1, history buffs, community volunteers and preservationists will team up with the Civil War Trust at more than 130 sites in 30 states to answer the call to service on Park Day. These volunteers will help staff preservation efforts at national parks and historic sites across the country.

Prater's Mill Historic Site will host a Park Day event beginning at 9 a.m. Volunteers willing to help clean up property and buildings at the historic mill are asked to meet at Prater's Mill, 5845 Highway 2, Dalton, Ga.

Needs range from trash and limb pickup to sweeping, dusting and cleaning buildings. Participants are asked to come dressed in work clothes and bring work gloves, garden tools, pruning shears and shovels, if possible.

Refreshments will be provided.

Prater's Mill Historic Site sits on the banks of the Coahulla Creek in northwest Whitfield County. Included at the site are a working grist mill built in 1855, an 1898 general store, 1915 Shugart cotton gin, 1935 Westbrook barn, Dr. John Lacewell's 1890 office and a 1974 train caboose.
