In general, I don't believe in New Year's resolutions. If there's something you need to change, why wait until now? It's OK to make changes during the year, you know.

But having said that, I figured I'd make a few New Year's resolutions. (No one said I had to be consistent in life.)

So here are a few of my plan-to-dos for 2018. Maybe you have some of them, too.

» Cut the cord. I get my cable and internet service through EPB, and I've got no complaints against the company. Anytime I've ever had any problem, they've either worked with me on the phone to rectify it or sent a technician out to the house - even on Sunday. But of the 200 or so channels that I've got on cable, I probably watch 15 on a regular basis. It's just not worth the cost. I'll keep the internet, but cut the cord.

» More popcorn. It wasn't until I sat down to write a column a couple of weeks ago that I realized I had seen about 10 movies in 2017. For someone who loves movies and usually sees about 20 to 25 a year, I was shocked and appalled. I must do better.

» All killer, no filler. I've spent the past two months going alphabetically down the songs in my iTunes library, deciding which ones I truly like and want to keep and which ones to toss. I started with 13,456 songs and I'm down to 9,866. I'm a bit embarrassed that there are more than 3,600 that weren't worth keeping. Why did I get them in the first place? And I'm only to the letter "S."

» Serious series. I have a bunch of books that are part of a series. "Repairman Jack" by F. Paul Wilson. "Sandman Slim" by Richard Kadrey. "The Dresden Files" by Jim Butcher. "The Dark Tower" by Stephen King. "The Pendergast Series" by Doug Preston and Lincoln Child. I've read all of them, one at a time as they were released. But you know how it is, a year or so between books and you forget some of what happened in the last one. So I plan to read these series, book after book after book. That way I'll remember what's going on. I hope.
