Moving can be a stressful time. The guide below provides new Chattanooga residents all the information they need to make sure their new home is ready when they get there

WATER

Tennessee American Water

To set up a new water account, call 1-866-736-6420 with the address and a date to turn water on. A water representative will check for any outstanding balances with American Water, then set up the appointment. New accounts incur a $15 activation fee.

ELECTRICITY

EPB

To set up a new account call the EPB at 423-648-1372 or visit one of its offices and fill out an application. Applicants will need to provide their driver's license number, a reference and answer questions about their employer. The applicant then goes through a credit assessment to see if a $200 deposit is required. EPB charges $29 for a same-day connection and $17 for a next-day connection. Power can be connected Monday through Friday. EPB offices are located at:

* 10 W. M.L. King Blvd., Chattanooga, TN 37402

* 5736 Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37411

GAS

Chattanooga Gas

To start service, call Chattanooga Gas at 1-866-643-4168. Applicants go through a soft credit check to see if a deposit is needed on the account. If a deposit is needed, the two highest bills from the past 12 months at the location where gas is turned on will be applied to the first bill. After 24 consecutive payments, gas users may apply to have their deposit refunded. If service is canceled before 24 months, Chattanooga Gas applies the deposit to the final bill and refunds the balance. A $15 service charge is also applied to the first bill for new accounts. Chattanooga Gas technicians turn on gas Monday through Friday and ask three days advance notice.

GARBAGE

If a residence within Chattanooga city limits already has a trash can, residents only need to put their garbage in the can by 7 a.m. on their trash pickup day. If no can is present, call 423-485-6311 to request one. Cans cost $60 and are delivered within five business days.
