New art from Princess Grace's favorite painter

Gallery 1401 draws on a list of more than 40 nationally and internationally acclaimed artists for its selection of fine art.

Owner Sue Markley says she "continues to find art and artists that exceed our current stable of artists and expectations." She just received 15 new pieces from Bruno Zutan, who was Princess Grace of Monaco's favorite painter and whose work appears in the Rothschild and Rockefeller collections, to name a few.

Markley notes that her Williams Street one-stop shop for original fine art represents some of the South's most amazing artists as well, including up-and-coming locals like Carylon Killebrew and Cessna Decosimo.

"We offer a wide variety of original fine art for discriminating tastes, and can satisfy any budget," says Markley. The gallery's collection is a broad stroke of contemporary realism, impressionism and classical styles of works on paper, canvas, board, sculpture and glass. Featured artists offer an impressive range of original watercolors, oils, collage, drawings, bronze, hand-blown glass and photography.

"Art is the first thing people see when they come in your home," she notes. "It warms the home and defines the home and the personality of the homeowner." One of her goals is to "assure the public realizes we cater to all styles and budgets."

"I think people expect a fine art gallery to be more on the expensive side," says Markley. "We range from about $150 on up. We really work hard to try to get pieces that are a good value in addition to our upper-end collector value." Financing is available.

The store offers free residential and commercial art consultations, assistance with frame selection to ensure masterful presentation, and placement consultations so that any room can be turned into a showplace. Professionals will also deliver and hang store-bought compositions.

Throughout the year, Gallery 1401 offers a series of both one-person and group exhibitions to promote an understanding of the cultural and historic significance of its collections. This spring, the lifelike landscapes and still lifes of budding artist Timur Akhriev will be on display during his first solo show at the gallery.
