Baby, it's finally cold outside, and a slightly spicy drink is just the thing to warm you up a bit. My favorite new find is a concoction created by Wes Black, head bartender at The Fix. He calls it the Breck Wall, in honor of one of the main ingredients, Breckenridge Bitters liqueur. He combines that with Afrohead 7-year rum, aged in a miniature barrel that sits atop the bar, and lavender syrup. "It's similar to an Old Fashioned, but made with rum, with a little more kick," he says of the Breck Wall.

The drink gets its unique spice from fresh lovage, a winter black pepper with a hint of smoky flavor that Black acquired in his weekly herb box from Crabtree Farms. Black steeps it in a tincture of 100-proof vodka along with a single stem of fennel, and adds a few drops to give the cocktail just the right amount of spice.

3/4 ounce Breckenridge Distillery Bitters
