Chatter Scenic City fashion heats up as temperatures cool down

September 1st, 2017 by Compiled by Jennifer Bardoner in Chatter - Fashion

As the temperature cools down, the fashion world heats up. Just because Chattanooga isn't center stage for the glitz and glamour of Fashion Week fall previews doesn't mean Scenic City residents don't have some surprises in store. We talked with some in-the-know locals with ties to all things fashionable about what to expect this season.

Owner/buyer, Frankie & Julian's

"Most of what I've learned about clothing came from my grandmother, who hired me as a young adult to work at her dry cleaners. I learned what quality clothing was early on, which has helped with my buying at markets in New York and Atlanta. My grandmother also taught me less is more and quality over quantity."

"My husband and I bought Frankie & Julian's in June, but it wasn't uncharted territory for me. I started at Frankie & Julian's nine years ago by being a sales associate part time, which enabled me to develop a relationship with our clients to better meet their personal style and needs. I'm excited to keep providing quality, unique clothing for all our beautiful Chattanooga ladies."

"As days get cooler, 'more' is still very much 'more.' Jewelry choices become more distinct and personal, ranging from gold hoops in all sizes and pendants that layer up, to bracelets and rings that stack up to tell a story. Styles are certainly not cutting back in quantity — nor bling — this season, yet the focus is on wearability." — Nicole Lampru, Fischer Evans

"Subarus offer all-wheel drive as standard on most vehicles, which can be extremely useful in our mountainous terrain in winter weather. Subaru's Eyesight system adds another layer of peace of mind to Subaru's already great safety record. Eyesight sees the road ahead of you and can stop for obstacles or even follow cars in front of you, speeding up and slowing down as needed." — Tim Kelly, Kelly Subaru

"Designers, like Mastoloni, have been breathing new life into pearls and incorporating them into funkier, bolder designs so we can all take advantage of a little beauty secret that has been around for years. The nacre of real pearls is universally flattering for any complexion — it's like wearing a light diffuser around your face. This funky pearl trend may revive pearls' status as jewelry-box staples once again." — Nicole Lampru, Fischer Evans

"We are seeing a lot of luxe in fabrications and styles — velvet, suede, ruffles, ruching, animal prints and leather — but all juxtaposed with a more casual, sportswear vibe. There is also an obvious resurgence of the '90s, reflected in mules, suiting and culottes as well as both pastel and jewel tones." — Alex Sachel, Willa Collection

"A big color trend is all about the nudes; pairing it with blush or chambray for daytime wear or dressing it up with shades of black for a sleek and posh night out. A wonderful attribute of wrap dresses is the versatile wear it gives. Its design is made to fit any body type, age or occasion. It can go from the office, then straight to dinner or a fun night out." — Starr Card, Frankie & Julian's

"Depending on the occasion, we tend to choose different jewelry pieces, and current trends are an invitation to dress an outfit up or down. A focus on a traditional piece is key, making it comfortable for us women to go from day to night events and still look and feel amazing. There are always gorgeous pieces that complement any outfit and survive the test of time, such as gold hoops and cuffs or diamond jewelry, pearl strings and chains." — Nicole Lampru, Fischer Evans

"For gentlemen, look forward to clothes continuing with a trimmer fit. The good news is designers are figuring out how to keep a trim fit comfortable by creating fabrics with more stretch in them. Today, not only are polos and T-shirts made with performance wear fabrics, but also button-downs, shorts and pants." — Kim Hobson, Alice Blue and Hanover Blue
