Reservations are due today for Cherokee Family Day, scheduled Aug. 20 at the Museum Center at Five Points in Cleveland, Tenn.

Cherokee educator Tammera Hicks will lead morning and afternoon programs on food and crafts. From 10 a.m. to noon that Saturday, participants will get hands-on experience in making traditional foods, such as corn soup, hickory nut soup, frybread and desserts, with samples and recipes. Cost is $10 for museum members, $12 for nonmembers.

From 1 to 3 p.m., a class for ages 7 and older will show families how to sew and decorate their own medicine bag, an important item in Cherokee culture. Cost is $12 for members, $15 for nonmembers.

The programming, the first in a series of events, is held in conjunction with the new exhibit at the museum, "Generations: Cherokee Language Through Art," which continues through Oct. 15.
