UTC presents 'The Ladies Man'

Expect slammed doors, shucked pants and slapped faces when the UTC Theatre Department starts off its spring semester with "The Ladies Man." Charles Morey's comedy will be presented in six performances, starting tonight in the Dorothy Hackett Ward Theatre on the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus.

"The Ladies Man" is based on a "freely translated and adapted" version of Georges Feydeau's "Tailleur Pour Dames," according to a news release. Set in 1901 Paris, the farce takes the audience through the unfortunate events that occur because of Dr. Molineaux's adventures at the notorious Moulin Rouge.

"The Ladies Man" was awarded Best Comedy at the Denver Post Ovation Awards, and Jay Harvey of The Indianapolis Star calls it "a comic minefield."

Director Patrick Sweetman said "The Ladies Man" is a comic delight.

"[It's] one of the funniest plays I have read," he said. "Morey creates situations that put the characters at their wits' end. As they try to deal with their dilemmas, they end up in increasingly bizarre scenarios."

The cast features UTC students Casey Lemons, Stephanie Hirsh, Kristina Lumm, Kaleb Moran, John Moser, Nicole Pavol, Jennifer Ervin and Michael Haggarty.

Lighting design is by John Burgess, costumes are designed by Sydney Roberts, and scenic design is by Gaye Jeffers.

"The Ladies Man" is recommended for audiences of high school age and older.
