Summer freebies at Blue Star Museums

Three museums in the region will participate in a summer promotion honoring America's military.

Blue Star Museums is a partnership among more than 1,100 facilities nationwide to offer free admission to active-duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day (Monday) through Labor Day (Sept. 5). That number includes McMinn County Living Heritage Museum in Athens, Tenn.; Cowan Railroad Museum in Cowan, Tenn.; and Chieftains Museum in Rome, Ga.

The program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention Common Access Card (CAC), A DD Form 1173 ID card or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, which includes active-duty military and their immediate family members in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard and Reserve.

The program is coordinated by the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit network of military families.
