Students from Girls Preparatory School and McCallie School will present a joint production of the Tony Award-winning musical "Les Misérables" this weekend at GPS.

The third-longest-running show in Broadway history, "Les Misérables" is based on the 1862 novel by Victor Hugo. Nominated for 12 Tony Awards, the production was honored as Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.

GPS producer Suzanne Smartt describes it as "a story of human evil, a story of triumphal spirit, a story of unimaginable perseverance and a story that shows joy in the large moments and how to find gratitude in the small."

The production is directed by award-winning GPS drama teacher Catherine Bolden. Both she and Smartt have been recognized regionally for their acting, directing and producing talents.

Special guest artist conductor of the GPS/McCallie orchestra will be Jooyong Ahn, director of the UTC Orchestra.

The production stars Tanner Peterson as Cosette, Austin Huston as Jean Valjean, Malia West as Fantine, Thomas West as Javert and Emma Brooks as Éponine. Other leading roles will be played by Jones C. Kolbinsky, Chris Lee, John Eric Miller, Katy Beth Barber and May May Hitchings.
